Fergus Beesley

Fergus has worked in Sheffield for 20 years and although born a Lancastrian he is now a committed supporter of all things Sheffield. He is passionate about the future of Sheffield as a sustainable and economically vibrant city. He brings a wealth of experience within community economic development.

Mary Bagley

Mary Bagley is the Director of Parks and Countryside Services at Sheffield City Council. She came to Sheffield in 2005 from Leicestershire where she was the Director of Environment and Culture for Charnwood Borough Council. She studied climate, sustainable development and the environment at Oxford University and her Masters is in Landscape Design at Sheffield University.

Mary is Chair of the Core Cities Parks and Green Spaces Group, on the National Steering Group for Country Parks and represents Sheffield on the Eurocities Green Spaces Working Group. She is committed to ensuring that every area of the city has green and open spaces of exceptional quality for current and future generations to use and enjoy by working in partnership with local communities, businesses, voluntary bodies and social enterprises.

Roy Mosley

Roy is Head of Land Management at the Wildlife Trust for Sheffield and Rotherham with specific responsibilities that include a partnership project to deliver a city-wide ecological network – the Living Don - and managing the Trust’s Nature Reserves.

Roy project managed the award-winning Centenary Riverside Wetland Nature Park in Rotherham and is also responsible for reducing the Trust’s carbon footprint. Originally from the north-east, Roy was educated at the University of Sheffield in Natural Environmental Science and went on to work in the environmental regeneration including a number of parks and green spaces in north Sheffield as well as conservation projects focused on green corridors and heathlands.

Roy is passionate about Sheffield’s green environment and can often be found walking, running or cycling through Sheffield’s natural spaces and is also a member of the Institute of Ecology and Environmental Management (IEEM).

Professor Steve Sharples

Professor Steve Sharples is Head of Environmental Design and Sustainability in the School of Architecture, University of Sheffield, and he also sits on the University’s Environment Committee. Steve is a Chartered Engineer and a member of the Chartered Institution of Building Services Engineers. His work has focussed on the environmental performance of buildings and he has carried out studies for local authorities, industry and government. One of his current projects (VivaCity 2020) is investigating sustainable urban environments, and particularly the physical and social environments linked to city centre living. Sheffield City Council has been a major collaborator on this project.

Teresa Hitchcock

A key part of Teresa's practice involves projects for the regeneration of land for new and sustainable uses, and in recent years she has also been actively involved in advising on Climate Change Law and projects for the reduction of emissions from greenhouse gases. Outside of her practice she is a keen advocate of promoting sustainable business development, and has been active in the Legal Sector Alliance, which pursues that goal in the context of organisations which provide legal services. She has also been actively involved for many years in the South Yorkshire Green Business Club.

Samiya Selim

Samiya Selim is the Project Coordinator of SHEBEEN. For the past two years she has been working with BME communities in Sheffield and getting them involved in environmental activities. Prior to that, she worked in local and international environmental projects on water resource management, sustainable development and environmental education. She worked three years on a DFID project with textile industries in Bangladesh and helped them to adopt good environmental practices in their production processes. She has also done awareness raising work with local communities on environment and health.

Samiya has obtained her Masters in Sustainable Development at the University of Leeds and has worked in Surrey and London on climate change issues. She has a keen interest in conservation work and has volunteered for several conservation projects including the Bangladesh Cetacean Diversity Project, Common Sense for Animals, USA and the RSPB. Currently, she is interested in reaching out to wider audiences on environmental issues and helping to promote sustainable communities.

Jenny Patient

Jenny Patient is secretary of Sheffield Campaign against Climate Change, which was formed to lobby and raise awareness on dangerous climate change. She is also a founder member of Transition Sheffield, an organisation supporting grassroots community responses to climate change and peak oil. She works as a Community Sustainability Consultant, delivering projects including: Whatever the Weather, community outreach for Weston Park Museum; Climate Justice day schools for the WEA; the development of a Low Carbon Network for Sheffield’s Voluntary, Community and Faith sector; and active citizenship training.

Following a first career in IT, Jenny qualified in adult education and worked in South Yorkshire’s community sector. She has recently completed an MSc in Human Ecology by researching the use of ecological footprints to communicate about climate change. Her current work in Sheffield includes publishing the monthly ‘Live the Cool Life’ newsletter and co-organising SCACC’s Green New Deal conference in February 2009.

Keith Winter

Co-Director and Senior Energy Consultant of a Sheffield based company (EMTAC Ltd). Keith works with the Carbon Trust as one of their technical experts in the field of monitoring and targeting energy usage. Keith is Sheffield born and bred and seeks to support the partnership with his technical knowledge of energy management and energy saving.
