Adult Work and Skills Board
This is a new high level board focussing on skills and work for local people.
The Board is based on models already existing in other core cities and in line with proposals put forward in the local area agreement. This board will be employer led and will aim to link the delivery of adult skills to the local economic demand. The Board will be made up of:
- Employer members, to include a private sector chair, and drawn principally from the private sector, including the Chamber of Commerce
- Voluntary, Community and Faith members, one as employer and one as sector representative
- A Trade Union representative
- Representatives from the City Council, Jobcentre Plus and the Learning and Skills Council
The aims of the Board are:
- To bring together the demand and supply sides of the local labour market in efforts to raise employability and skill levels
- To put employer needs at the heart of employability and skills programmes
- To ensure funding agencies align resources in support of employability and skills objectives
The Board will approve and own a (3 year) delivery plan to include agreed priorities and performance targets, identifying resources and ensure agencies align relevant funding. It will also ensure consistency with partners’ plans and the LAA. The board will also oversee performance against the delivery plan, and collectively monitor, review and evaluate the performance of its work.
